Fastest Production cars as of 2020 ( As per Top Speed )

Curiosity is the mother of all inventions

Although necessity is widely regarded as the mother of all inventions until we aren't curious about the fundamentals and workings of the world around us and won't ask questions, growth will become stagnant.
The invention of the modern automobile by Karl Benz in 1886 changed the world forever and with the sharp rise in popularity and sales of automobiles, came a sharp rise in the questions of curious peoples.
"How safe is it than a horse carriage? ", " How far can it go before refueling?" etc, etc......
and among these, came one such question that changed the automotive world forever.

" How fast can it go?"

The answer to which still changes after every few years, it is because of this question that some of the most beautiful and extreme pieces of engineering were created.

Holding the title of the " World's Fastest Production Car " is one of the most prestigious and elite award a car and its manufacturer can earn and below are some of the fastest production cars built by man.

9. McLaren Speedtail ( 250 mph )

The Mclaren Speedtail

Ever since the McLaren F1, regarded by everyone, including me, the greatest piece of automotive engineering to be ever created and the greatest supercar ever, debuted in 1992 and became the world's fastest production car by achieving a top speed of 240 mph or 386.24 kmph with a 3-seat layout ( driver in the middle ), people have been curious as to what car could possibly be a successor to an already perfect car.

Now, in 2020, McLaren returns to the supercar territory by making not only the car that will be the successor to the legendary F1 but will also be the fastest Mclaren ever produced. Ladies and gentlemen, the McLaren Speedtail.

The Speedtail uses a 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 engine coupled with an electric motor to generate a combined power output of 1,036 hp. This power is enough to launch the £2,100,000 Hyper-GT from 0-299 kmph in 12.8 seconds and it tops out at 250 mph or 402.3 kmph. Only 106 examples of this car will be made and all of them have been sold out.

The car that broke the previous record set by McLaren F1, the Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4 became the fastest production car in the world in 2005, ending the 12-year reign of the McLaren F1. This beast of a car is powered by an 8.0L quad-turbocharged W16 engine producing 987 hp and 1,250 Nm of torque which is more than enough to propel the Veyron from 0-100 kmph in 2.4 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 253.8 mph or 408.45 kmph. With an asking price of £1,000,000, it was the most expensive production car on sale at the time of its launch.

7. SSC Ultimate Aero ( 256.18 mph )

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT

The SSC Ultimate Aero TT, just like all the entries above and all the entries below it is a mid-engine supercar that became the world's fastest production car in 2007 by reaching a previously unheard-of top speed of 256.8 mph or 412.28 kmph and beating the Bugatti Veyron.

The car is hand-built by SSC North America, an American supercar manufacturing company. The Ultimate Aero TT is powered by a 3.8 L twin-turbocharged Chevrolet Corvette C5R V8 engine producing 1,183 bhp and 1,483 N-m of torque.

This car has probably one of the coolest names in the automotive world, containing the word " Ultimate " in its name, and actually smashing the production car world record.
With a price tag of $740,000 at the time of its launch back in 2007, it was a bargain considering its performance and the record it held.

6. Koenigsegg Agera R ( 260 mph )

The Koenigsegg Agera R

The Koenigsegg Agera R is a hypercar manufactured by the Swedish manufacturer, Koenigsegg Automotive AB. This $2,100,000 hypercar is powered by an in-house developed 5.0 L twin-turbocharged V8 producing 1,140 hp and over a 1000 N-m of torque which enables it to sprint from 0-100 kmph less than 3 seconds and pushes the car to an eye-popping top speed of 260 mph or 418.4 kmph.

Plus, in my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful car ever made.

The Koenigsegg Agera R

The Koenigsegg Agera R also held the Guinness World Record for 0-300-0 kmph which it smashed in 2013 with a time of 21.19 sec. The record was eventually beaten by another Koenigsegg, the One:1 which did the 0-300-0 kmph test in 17.95 seconds and it still holds the record as of this day. Read more about the Koenigsegg One:1 in my previous blog here.

5. Bugatti Chiron ( 261 mph )

The Bugatti Chiron

The Bugatti Chiron is the successor to one of the most famous and breath-taking pieces of engineering made by man, the Bugatti Veyron. The Chiron is powered by a heavily updated version of the 8.0 L quad-turbocharged W16 engine that powered the Veyron. The Chiron, just like the Veyron wraps the owner in total luxury while hitting record braking speeds and most importantly, looking very handsome while doing it.

The Bugatti Chiron

The Chiron can sprint to an electronically limited top speed of 261 mph or 420 kmph and while maintaining that mind-boggling top speed, it can drink through its full tank of 100 liters of dino juices in less than 9 minutes!!

The Bugatti Chiron also broke the 0-400-0 kmph record in 2017 by clocking a time of 42 seconds, although it was eventually succeeded by the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which did it in 36.44 seconds.

You can watch the world record-setting run of the Chiron in the video below:

With a £ 2,400,000 price tag, the Chiron is one of the most expensive hypercars ever produced and one of the fastest.

4. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport ( 268 mph )

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is essentially a Bugatti Veyron turned to 11. It held the world record of the fastest production car from 2010 all the way to 2017.
This monstrosity is powered by the same 8.0 L quad-turbocharged W16 engine that powered the Veyron, but the power output was increased to 1,184 hp and maximum torque was increased to 1,500 N-m.

The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport became the world's fastest production car by hitting a top speed of 268 mph or 431.3 kmph without the electronic limiter. The top speed is electronically limited to 258 mph or 415 kmph so as to protect the tires from disintegrating.

Bonkers!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. Hennessey Venom GT  ( 270 mph )

The Hennessey Venom GT
The Hennessey Venom GT is an American hypercar made by an American company, Hennessey Performance Engineering. The Venom GT is essentially a heavily customized Lotus Elise/Exige with a hefty $1.2 million price tag which she more than justifies. The Venom GT is powered by a twin-turbocharged 7.0 L LS7 V8 engine which produces 1,244 hp and 1,566 N-m of torque. This huge power enables the Venom GT to sprint from 0-100 kmph in 3.05 seconds and it also set a Guinness World Record for the fastest accelerating road-legal car from 0-300 kmph on January 21, 2013, with an average acceleration of 13.63 seconds.

The Hennessey Venom GT

The Venom GT achieved a groundbreaking top speed of 270 mph or 434.5 kmph on February 14, 2014, which made it the unofficial fastest production car in the world but since the test was uni-directional and the total number of Venom GT sold were only 13 ( minimum number of cars required to qualify for the fastest production car is 30 ), so the Venom GT was not considered to be the official fastest production and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport still remained the fastest production car.

You can watch the 270 mph run of the Venom GT in the video below:

2. Koenigsegg Agera RS  ( 277.87 mph )

The Koenigsegg Agera RS

The Koenigsegg Agera RS is an updated version of Agera R and it also combines the features of the One:1 and the Agera S. It uses the same 5.0 L twin-turbocharged V8, but now it produces 1,160 hp on regular fuel and even more ponies if supplied with E85 flex-fuel. Koenigsegg is the only "green" hypercar manufacturer in the world.

The Koenigsegg Agera RS

With the Agera RS, Koenigsegg took two Guinness World Records from Bugatti's plate, firstly, the 0-400-0 kmph world record which it smashed in 36.44 seconds, beating the Bugatti Chiron's 42 seconds run on 1st October 2017 and secondly, it became the fastest production car in the world on 14 November 2017, when it achieved a top speed of 277.87 mph or 447.18 kmph, beating the previous record of 268 mph set by the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport.

Also, the car costs a whopping $2,500,000.

You can watch the Agera RS 0-400-0 record-breaking video in the link below :
