McLaren P1 | The Most Brutal Supercar Ever |

Overview

One of the members of the holy trinity of automobiles, the McLaren P1 is by far one of the most brutal supercars that have ever been made.

As I quote McLaren themselves, " The P1 is designed, engineered and built to be the best driver's car in the world ", a bold statement considering the plethora of automobiles out there, the P1 stands in a league of its own, lives up to its hype and purpose and has left a lasting legacy on the automobile world.

The magnificent McLaren P1

The McLaren P1, like the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Ferrari LaFerrari are unlike any other supercar, let alone any other automobile ever created. The hybrid technology which was developed in the lieu of increasing CO2 emissions and global warming is used in these cars to further enhance the performance of the engines. As I quote Mr. Jeremy Clarkson himself, " It's like weaponizing a wind farm ".

Specifications

The monster that powers the P1 is a 3.8 L, 231.8 cu in (3,799cc) twin-turbocharged V8 that produces peak power of 727 hp at 7500 rpm and peak torque of 720 N-m at 4000 rpm. The power is then further enhanced by an in-house developed electric motor producing 132 kW or 177 hp and 260 N-m of torque which works in conjugation with the internal combustion engine so that the combined power output is a mind-boggling 903 hp. The power is then sent to the rear wheels of the P1 with the help of a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The electric motor is used to fill in the gaps when the internal combustion engine is not working in the optimal condition and prevents turbo-lag in P1.

The power is enough to propel the P1 from nothing to an over-speeding ticket in 2.8 seconds. According to McLaren the P1 accelerates from 0-100 kmph (0-62 mph) in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 kmph (0-124 mph) in 6.8 seconds, 0-299 kmph (0-186 mph) in 16.5 seconds. The P1 is electronically limited to 350 kmph ( 217 mph).

If you have the potential to tear up the tarmac as quickly as the P1, then you should also have the stopping power to match the equally brutal acceleration so that you live to tell the tale. The P1 doesn't disappoint in the braking department as well.
According to McLaren, it takes 6.2 seconds to get the P1 to a complete halt from 300 kmph, during which the car will cover 246 meters.

With a price tag of mind-numbing $1.15 million and a production run of just 375 units, the McLaren P1 is the definition of exclusivity.

Legacy

Equipped with Formula 1 derived features such as Instant Power Assist System (IPAS), which provides an instant boost in acceleration with the help of the electric motor, a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which controls the rear wing of the car for maximum straight line speed and a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS), the Mclaren P1 is a force to be reckoned with even after being almost 7 years old.

Although it doesn't have the beauty and the seductiveness of an exotic that will make you drool over its curves, the P1 more than makes up for it with its savagery and brutality. After all, it was never designed nor engineered to be a garage collectible, the P1 was built with only one purpose, to be the best driver's car in the world. PERIOD.
