Ferrari LaFerrari | Maranello's answer to the hybrid supercars |

Overview

The Ferrari LaFerrari is Ferrari's answer to the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder. The successor to the mighty Ferrari Enzo and the next chapter in the ultimate Ferrari line-up, the Ferrari LaFerrari is not only Ferrari's first hybrid supercar, in-fact at the time of its launch, the Ferrari LaFerrai was the fastest and the most powerful road-going Ferrari in the whole world.

The Ferrari LaFerrari, just like the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder is a hybrid supercar but unlike the Porsche and the McLaren, the Ferrari uses an F1-derived KERS or Kinetic Energy Recovery System, which means that the power that is essentially wasted by the engine, like during braking is stored for later usage. The Ferrari LaFerrari is also the lightest car among the trio, with a curb weight of 1,585 Kg.

Specifications

The Ferrari LaFerrari, at the time of it's launch, was not only Ferrari's first hybrid supercar, but it was also the most powerful and the fastest road-legal Ferrari. Powering the LaFerrari is a proper exotic engine with the most number of cylinders among the trio, 12 to be precise. The Ferrari LaFerrari is powered by a 6.3 L naturally-aspirated V12 engine that produces 789 hp at 9000 rpm and peak torque of 700 N-m at 6,750 rpm. The V12 engine is supplemented by a 161 hp electric motor that works like the KERS system found in F1 cars, i.e., it provides short burst of power when needed.

The V12 engine and the electric motor always work in conjunction with each other so that the combined power output of the LaFerrari is an ungodly 950 hp and 900 N-m to torque.
Couple that with an extremely light body and we get a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of just 2.4 seconds, which makes it one of the fastest accelerating cars on the planet. The Ferrari LaFerrari also has a top speed of 372 kmph or 231 mph, making it the fastest car amongst the trio as well as the fastest road-legal Ferrari at the time of it's launch.

The Ferrari LaFerrari, just like the members of the holy trinity, the McLaren P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder is a hybrid supercar but unlike the other two, the LaFerrari cannot be driven on electric power alone. The V12 engine and the electric motor always work together all the time, i.e., they cannot be separated. The Ferrari LaFerrari, just like the McLaren P1 is a mid-engine rear-wheel-drive car.

Legacy

Being the successor the legendary Ferrari Enzo and also being the first hybrid Ferrari on top of being the last mid-mounted V12 Ferrari as well the Ferrari's halo car, the LaFerrari had it's work cut out even before it first laid its tires on any tarmac, but the LaFerrari blew away the world and the entire competition upon it's arrival and showed everybody why Ferrari is the greatest performance car maker in the whole world.

With a price tag of $1,420,112, the LaFerrari is not only the fastest car amongst the trinity, but also the most expensive.

Now with the whole world driving towards greener cars, the big engine cars are starting to be replaced by smaller, more efficient power plants with hybridization, the LaFerrari is the last great Ferrari to have the biblical mid-mounted V12 engine roar that Ferrari's of the past were famous for. The LaFerrari is the greatest and the most important Ferrari of the modern age.
